About Research in the Rye Lab
We are broadly interested in understanding how the conformational states of proteins and cellular membranes are monitored and controlled inside a living cell. Using bacteria and yeast as model systems, we employ a variety of methods, including genetics, protein mutagenesis, fluorescence spectroscopy, stopped-flow kinetics and single-molecule fluorescence burst analysis. Projects in the lab cluster into two thematic areas involving (1) protein dynamics and molecular chaperone function and (2) membrane dynamics.
